One barn at a time, one heart at a time.
"FCA has been part of my life since the summer before my freshman year of high school. I loved the focus on competing for the glory of God in whichever sport you chose to play. While I also played basketball through middle and high school, my real passion has always been horses.
I didn’t have the talented horses like some of my friends did, but I loved competing in the equestrian sport, and even more than that, I just loved being an equestrian. And now, I get to be a coach. As a coach, I want to lead my athletes toward Christ. FCA Equestrian is the needed pathway to accomplish that goal.
For years, as a coach in a very individualized sport, I have tried to foster the value of selflessness, mostly through teaching horsemanship and sportsmanship. But my reason for valuing selflessness is that we are called to consider others as better than ourselves (Philippians 2:3), and to love the Lord first, and others next (Mark 12:30-31). As someone who runs a riding lesson program and manages a horse farm, finding the time to add another thing, such as a devotional or Bible study for my athletes, seemed overwhelming. But God.
God knew what I needed before I did. He had been working in the background during Covid, building a new section of FCA, creating FCA Equestrian. No one knew what it needed to look like, but we all knew that we needed it. FCA Equestrian brings the God-focused, coach- and athlete-driven structure that I wasn’t able to create myself. Even if my athletes don’t understand why they need it, I see them learning from the devotionals and applying what they learn. I see the Lord meeting needs in hearts (including mine) before we know that we have them. I see the Lord paving the way to reach the dark and egocentric world of horseback riding, one barn at a time, one heart at a time."
